Detergent or Chemical Residue

Permanent Glass Etching

Repeatedly exposing etched glassware to more chemicals will not restore the damaged surface.

Organic Residue

Lipstick, juice pulp, labels and grease are cleaning problems rather than mineral-scale problems. Filters, wash arms, detergents and loading practices may need attention.

How to Descale a Commercial Glasswasher Safely

The following is a general guide only. The machine manual and descaling-product instructions must take priority.

Step 1: Stop and Isolate the Machine as Directed

Take the glasswasher out of service and allow it to reach the condition specified by the manufacturer.

Follow the machine’s shutdown and isolation instructions. Do not access electrical or internal service components unless you are appropriately qualified.

Step 2: Drain the Glasswasher

Drain the wash tank completely according to the manufacturer’s procedure.

Any existing detergent or cleaning chemical must be removed before an acidic descaler is introduced.

Step 3: Rinse Away Remaining Chemicals

Where instructed, refill and rinse the machine with clean water before draining it again.

This is particularly important where chlorine-based or other incompatible products may remain in the machine.

Step 4: Remove Permitted Components

Remove only those components identified as operator-removable in the manual. Depending on the model, these may include:

  • Glass racks

Do not force components or dismantle fixed parts.

Step 5: Remove Loose Debris
